aRC – where technology meets sustainability…

aRC utilises QR technology to enable access to details on our retail display components, to enable the sustainable management of permanent and semi-permanent display. aRC creates an easy and accessible way to help retailers improve recycling of permanent and semi-permanent displays at their end of life in-store.

Retail displays designed and  manufactured by arken feature a unique QR code, providing digital sustainability identities that store teams can scan to make informed recycling decisions, simply and quickly.

aRC further cements our position at the forefront of sustainability best practice within the retail display sector, our innovative initiative is aimed at reducing the time is takes for correctly identifying individual components of retail displays for recycling.

While there is tremendous interest amongst retailers and brands for improving sustainability during the design and manufacturing of retail displays, recycling displays at their end of life in-store isn’t as easy as it could be for store teams who want to do the right thing but are, ultimately, time-pressed.

Accurately verifying the materials and components used to make a retail display unit is an important enabler to effective recycling at the end of the display’s life in-store and giving store teams a quick and easy method of accessing vital information, in a way that’s mobile friendly, can only help.

The initiative, developed by our dedicated Sustainability Leadership Team, has already been trialled on units manufactured for several of our clients, including beauty and consumer electronics brands.

Accreditations

Our accreditations and certifications demonstrate our commitment to our people, our clients and the planet, and ensure robust environmental and CSR practices throughout our supply chain and at every stage of a project.

We are currently working towards B-Corp.

Environmental policy

Our integrated management system is certified to the internationally recognised standards ISO 9001: 2015 for quality and ISO 14001: for environment and sustainability.

This means that:

  • We have identified our regulatory and legislative obligations.
  • We have identified how our activities (aspects) can have a positive or negative effect on the environment (impacts).
  • We have identified how our activities can affect our ‘interested parties’ e.g., clients and consumers.
  • The business management system is continually improved through internal and external audit and review by top management.
  • Designs consider the lifecycle of the product and the circular economy.
  • Top management commitment is evidenced by both the quality and environmental policies.
  • Risks and opportunities, both positive and negative have been identified.
  • The bms is continually reviewed for its ongoing suitability.
  • Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle applies to both standards.

We are committed to reducing environmental impact across our entire organisation and are working alongside retailers, brands and suppliers alike to formulate strategies for tackling these issues. As a result, we are focused on making continual improvements in a number of key areas to drive on-going sustainability:

Design – Product lifespan, use of modular parts where possible, design for re-use, minimisation of material types, design for lightweight materials.

Materials and Processes – Total carbon footprint of material selected, optimise material usage, use minimal number of components, made from readily recyclable materials, made with recycled material content, ease of disassembly.

Plant and Premises – In-house vs. outsourced, efficient use of labour, minimise secondary processes, produced with low energy consumption, supply chain fit for purpose, suitable environmental policy.

Installation and Fulfilment – Outsourced parts delivery, finished goods volume, packaging fit for transportation.
